A brief introduction
Hi,
For my first blog entry I thought it would be nice to provide a little background as context for the future.
My position in the company is as the Linux Systems Administrator and as such I have daily contact with much of the FOSS world – and strong views about i too!
Day to day I do my best to keep systems running, monitor to predict problems and get new Operating Systems on our discovery network to ensure that Foundation can do what it says on the can.
My preferred Linux distribution is currently Ubuntu – even my wife uses it now! I have to say that whenever I have needed a tool in recent times it always seems to be in the repositories which saves a lot of time hunting it down. In the ‘flamewars’ I reside on the side of the Vi users and Gnome – although I have to say I am impressed with the work done on KDE 4.0 and look forward to seeing the new things in 4.1 as a direct result of the developers investment in the new backends.
Previously I have worked in the financial sector maintaining multiple *NIX systems for a wide variety of applications from Oracle to Websphere down to simple sendmail. My current plan is to blog some of the cool things we do for discovery here along with my thoughts on current technical news – but of course these are all my views and are never guaranteed to correspond with those of my employer ;)
If you have any specific things that would be nice to hear about please leave comments :)
Kind regards to all,
James
