Mitigation for Litigation
As litigation revolving around transactional systems increases some experts believe we will very soon see cases where not knowing what applications are running on your servers, and where they are, will be construed as professional malpractice or negligence. If this is the case a few high profile cases would help quantify a cost of poor service management. I guess the next step would be indemnity insurance to cover such claims. Insurance companies would probably look at the risk and charge accordingly, which would help quantify value of good service management.
How realistic is this – well if you employed a builder to carry out work on your house and the roof collapsed because he took out a wall that he wasn’t aware was load bearing would you sue him? Or would you let him off with hosting a few crisis meetings and carrying out a root cause elimination exercise, as some dark clouds appear over head???
