Offset Second Life in Real Life
How do you bring together Tideway’s exciting mission to automate the world’s data centres with fun and also saving the planet!?! Sound tricky…well…some would argue that we already do something for enhancing the fun factor in Data Centre Operations…and in the context of data centre consolidation and efficient management we are looking to play our part in addressing electricity consumption, wasted hardware and hence carbon footprint and contribution to climate change in conjunction with our customers. I quite liked the angle that making Second Life’s data centre more efficient could bring given the article below. I actually exchanged emails with Philip Rosedale about Tideway’s business plan back in 2002…he also was working on a new venture…seems to have done okay. J From the website of Adventure Ecology, started by a friend of mine David de Rothschild: -
“Together, people can reverse the damage that’s been wrought on planet Earth. People, consumers, the public, customers…call us what you will. Together our voice is loud and powerful. And making ourselves heard is going to be an adventure!
It’s the small actions, done by hundreds, thousands, even millions of people, that will make an astounding difference to the future of planet Earth. AE is not just happy with ripples, we want to create waves. Sound like a challenge? We think it sounds like fun.
Would you believe that Second Life avatars consume just a little less electricity than the world average for a person and as much as the average Brazilian because of the energy used by servers hosting the virtual world?”
