Oracle Acquisition of BEA
I’m hearing conflicting responses to the potential impact of the Oracle acquisition of BEA on Weblogic / AquaLogic houses.
In ‘An Oracle-BEA Combo: How It Will Affect You, Oct 2007’ Forrester recommend organizations ‘that have both Oracle and BEA products should chart their inventory and analyze the potential for consolidation to raise discount rates, and reduce operations support costs’.
In addition Forrester indicate the risk of Oracle replacing BEA Weblogic Server, Weblogic Portal and AquaLogic Service Bus due to the high degree of overlap with their own products.
What ever the outcome we hear that many organizations are taking Forrester’s advice but in most cases struggling due to the sheer scale of their environment. In addition organizations are finding it tough to understand the business impact, understanding which business services are underpinned by BEA products.
