Rethink the ‘Home page’
Back when the web was young, the home page was where most visitors to a web site would start and therefore it got the most attention. Is this still a valid way of thinking today?
Today, visitors typically visit web sites as a result of a search or a deep link from somewhere else. And that means that you have to make sure every page on your web site feels like a ‘home page’, i.e. a page where every visitor feels welcome.
If your pages look boring or cluttered, if the site is hard to navigate or is full of meaningless marketing animations, if it is badly structured and doesn’t help the user find relevant information, visitors won’t stay long and certainly won’t come back.
Invest in your web site, and make sure you don’t focus just on the ‘home page’.
