Veritas Licensing in February TKU Release
I have to tell you about the great work done by Edoardo, one of our TKU Developers.
We have been asked by a number of organizations to assist with Symantec Veritas license audits. Veritas products provide a challenge from an audit perspective for two reasons:
1) they use license key files.
2) some products such as Storage Foundation are licensed as bundles
In the case of Storage Foundation there are 8 different product editions each comprising of a different set of bundled products. For example Storage Foundation comprises of: Veritas Volume Manager and File System whereas Storage Foundation Cluster File System comprises of: Veritas Volume Manager, Cluster Server and File System.
But some bundled products such as Cluster Server are also available standalone!
The common product to all Storage Foundation products is Volume Manager so Edoardo has created a pattern that is triggered by Volume Manager. Then the clever work begins. The pattern then locates the license key file and parses the file to determine which Veritas products are installed. This is further complicated as Veritas products installed on a server share a single license key file and expire based on a specified date.
