Hardware & Software Requirements
for Tideway Foundation Community Edition

Hardware Requirements

To run the Virtual Machine (VM) your system will need have sufficient RAM to support your operating system and the VM (we recommend 1GB RAM) and a minimum of 25GB of Hard Disk space should the VM grow to full capacity.

Virtual Machine (VMware)

The Tideway Foundation VM is built using VMware Server version 2.0 (build 122956). It will run on the following VMware products on any Windows, OSX or Linux machine supported by the VMware product.
(Tideway only verifies the Community Edition against VMware Server):

It is necessary to convert the VM in order to run in Virtual Infrastructure and ESXi. Please see the appropriate VMware documentation for details.

Virtual Machine (OVF)

The Tideway Foundation VM is also available as an OVF image. It is built using Citrix XenServer 5.0 and then converted into an OVF image using the Citrix Tool Project Kensho 1.1.

The OVF should be importable into any virtualisation tool that supports the OVF standard, but it has been shown to run in the following:

  • Citrix XenServer v 5.0
  • Microsoft Hyper-V 2008

Virtual Machine Configuration

The Tideway Foundation VM is supplied as a compressed zip file and built with the following default configuration:

  • 1 CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 20GB HDD (to grow, in 2 GB file increments)
  • 1 CD/DVD drive
  • 1 Network Interface Card (NIC) – configured to use DHCP to obtain an IP address

Additional CPUs and RAM can be allocated to improve performance but we recommend the above as a minimum specification.
