Software Companies Try Freebies in Tough Economy
Software makers as diverse as Microsoft, Adobe Systems and Tideway Systems are trying to blunt the effects of a down economy by giving valuable software away in the hope that it will lead to new business down the road. “If I get five customers I wouldn’t have gotten before, that’s worth it,” said Adam Kerrison, chief technology officer at London-based Tideway, which manufactures business-related software.
